A word about our curriculum…..
We are
thrilled to present the curriculum called Blessed Are We which is
published by Silver Burdett Ginn in grades 1 through 7. Blest Are
We is a spiral curriculum that builds on itself each year. Blest
Are We is divided into four parts which is based on the four pillars
of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. These include (1) What
Catholics Believe (2) How Catholics Worship (3) How Catholics Live
(4) How Catholics Pray. These four elements are interwoven
throughout each grade level. Along with this curriculum is a
website www.blestarewe.com to be used by parents, catechists, and
children.
CONFIRMATION
I :
Grade 8 will
be introduced to One Faith, One Lord by Sadlier. This is a
comprehensive curriculum which goes over the basics of the Catholic
Faith. This will enable students to better understand Catholic
doctrine and be aware of what they will be confirming the following
year as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
CONFIRMATION
II:
Grade 9 will
be introduced to Loyola Press’ Confirmed in the Spirit series. This
year is devoted to the Sacrament of Confirmation.
We will
be offering a Respect Life Lesson and Essay/Coloring contest for
students in grades 3-9! There will be a winner from our parish on
each grade level! This will encompass on an age-appropriate level
the dignity and sacredness of human life as is identified in
Catholic Church Teaching.
Vocation Awareness—At
baptism we are called to serve the Lord through a vocation in life.
Here at St. Patrick we place a strong emphasis on vocations to the
Priesthood, Religious Life, Deaconate, Married and Single life.
This is encompassed throughout all grade levels. We will celebrate
National Vocation Awareness Week the week of January 12. Your child
will be treated to guest speakers on VOCATION! You are invited to
attend as well! Please pray for your child’s vocation in life!
Please also pray for our own parish priests, Fr. Arnold Medeiros
and Fr. Dariusz Kalinowski as well as our own Deacon Hank Gardyna,
Sr. Catherine Lamb and especially for St. Patrick’s Seminarian, Ron
Floyd! That their vocations will continue to be renewed and
strengthened!
Child
Maltreatment Program—As
required by the Diocese of Fall River, St. Patrick’s Parish is
including this curriculum within the classroom setting. It is
age-appropriate and consists of only a few minutes in about 2 to 4
sessions during the course of the year. We are committed to
protecting God’s children!
Class Procedures
Classes will be held as scheduled. If there is a cancellation we
will notify the local schools and WATD 95.9 FM, WBZ News Channel 4,
and WBZ radio 1030 AM. You may also receive a call from your
child’s teacher informing you of the cancellation. If Wareham
public school is cancelled, then Religious Education is cancelled
also.
Absences—If
your child will be absent, please call the office to let us know.
If your child has 3 or more unexcused absences your child may have
to repeat the year.
Dismissal Policy—If
you have to dismiss your child from class, please be sure that you
give the dismissal note to Paula and then inform the teacher
of the dismissal.
Gathering Procedure –
All
students and parents will gather in the parish hall for
opening prayer. Each teacher will have a designated spot where they
will gather with their students. At the end of the opening prayer,
the students will go with the teachers to their respective classes.
Dismissal Procedure –
Will now be
on the lower level of the parish hall. Teachers will remain with
their students until all are picked up. If you attend class in the
Cenacle, the teachers will bring their students back to the parish
hall for dismissal on the lower level. Please park on the
LOWER LEVEL ONLY.
Classroom Rules –
The
classrooms should be left the same way as when students arrive, in a
neat and orderly manner.
Try to use
the bathroom facilities before classes begin.
Food is not
allowed in the classrooms, so if your child is hungry, please
provide a snack on the way to class.
RESPECT is
the key word, with the teacher and with each other.
